Dedicated to the Work of Health and Healing for All

Quinnipiac University's Rural Family Medicine Residency program is committed to improving the health of the communities we serve and addressing healthcare inequities through direct patient care, community outreach, health professions education and scholarly inquiry.

Our Mission, Vision and Core Values

The Rural Family Medicine Residency program trains our residents to provide the highest quality of medical care to rural and underserved communities. Our mission is to guide the training of the next generation of exceptional family physicians.

Our Location

The Hartford HealthCare Health Center in Winsted, CT serves as the resident continuity clinic for PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents.  Elsewhere in the building, you'll find physical and occupational therapy, cardiac and pulmonary rehab, a freestanding emergency department, a blood draw center and imaging services including CT, ultrasound, mammography and X-ray.  The patients and the local communities are warm, welcoming, and committed to educating the next generation of physicians.

Enjoying Life in Northwest Connecticut

The hills of Northwest Connecticut provide a stunning backdrop for outdoor activities during all four seasons. Litchfield County is home to many hiking spots including Bear Mountain — the tallest mountain in Connecticut — and Kent Falls, a must-see waterfall that drops 250’ over ¼ mile. All Connecticut state parks are free for residents.  You can also cool off in the Farmington River — a popular kayaking, canoeing, tubing and fly-fishing location that flows through several nearby towns — visit Highland Lake or take a ride on any of the several bike paths in the area. One of the most recognized is the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, which runs from New Haven, CT to Northampton, MA.  The agricultural nature of the area makes fall an especially beautiful time of year. Surrounded by unparalleled foliage, residents can unwind and shop around at local fairs, pumpkin patches and apple orchards.

Quality of life matters.

If you love the New England lifestyle, you will love living and practicing here. Eastern Connecticut and the Farmington Valley are storybook-beautiful and steeped in history. West Hartford has been named a “Top 10 City to Raise a Family” by Kiplinger and the “Coolest Suburb in America” by Travel + Leisure. And Connecticut’s shoreline has been hailed as “The New Hamptons” by the New York Post.

With our expansive care network, you’ll find plenty of options to practice and live where you want. You’ll find neighborhoods and homes in the country, along the shore, in vibrant metro areas, or within friendly suburbs. Many of Connecticut’s best public and private schools can be found in the communities where we work and live. And, the state has many nationally recognized colleges, including Yale University, Quinnipiac University, and Trinity University, giving you and your family ready access to the educational and cultural benefits of these world-class institutions.
