Litchfield County is home to many hiking spots including Bear Mountain — the tallest mountain in Connecticut — and Kent Falls, a must-see waterfall that drops 250’ over ¼ mile. All Connecticut state parks are free for residents. You can also cool off in the Farmington River — a popular kayaking, canoeing, tubing and fly-fishing location that flows through several nearby towns — visit Highland Lake or take a ride on any of the several bike paths in the area. One of the most recognized is the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, which runs from New Haven, CT to Northampton, MA. The agricultural nature of the area makes fall an especially beautiful time of year.
