Physician Assistant - Surgical Fellowship

Hartford Healthcare is seeking new graduate and experienced physician assistants to join our robust Post Graduate Clinical Fellowship in Surgery for Physician Assistants. During this 13-month fellowship, the APP will rotate through surgical departments at Backus, the Hospital of Central Connecticut and Hartford Hospital, working in general surgery, trauma, thoracic, vascular, colorectal, and SICU. In the last rotation, the APP will return to Backus to orient the following year’s fellowship physician assistants. With this unique opportunity, the APP will gain intensive, well-rounded clinical experience and training in numerous procedures and specialties.

 

Role: Physician Assistant

Location:  Hartford, Norwich, New Britain

Setting: Inpatient, surgical subspecialties

Schedule:  Full-time, rotatin.

Call schedule: No call

About Our Hospitals:

Hartford Hospital is one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals in New England. The Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center which provides cutting edge treatment to its patients. This is made possible by being home to the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), one of the most-advanced medical simulation training centers in the world.

Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut for almost 120 years. Backus is home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and is the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. The Hospital delivers and coordinates a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of its communities.

The Hospital of Central Connecticut and MidState are acute-care community teaching hospitals with campuses in New Britain, Southington, and Meriden. While Advance Practice Practitioners and residents work collaboratively, each runs a separate surgical service. With Level III Trauma designation, the referral base of the THOCC has expanded, so has patient volume and acuity.

Physician Assistants Role Scope:

Under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with the practice physician(s), Physician Assistants perform routine physical examinations, and formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients.

In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, Physician Assistants develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists.

Physician Assistants provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider’s practice as designated by protocols and identifies problems outside of their scope of practice and refers appropriately to physician.


Requirements:

  • Licensure: Unrestricted State of Connecticut Medical License (or eligible)
  • Training: Physician Assistant
  • Experience: New grads welcome to apply!

·       BLS/ACLS certifications

·       Unofficial graduate (PA school) transcript
